Obituary for Walter Smith Jr.

Walter Smith Jr., 79, of Camby, passed away peacefully as he went to be with the Lord on July 10, 2020 with his loving family by his side. He was born to Walter Sr. and Helen (Helton) Smith on July 1, 1941 in Pineville, KY. He was a 1961 Mooresville High School Graduate. He married Judith Ann (Goad) Smith on September 10, 1960.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Judy Smith of Camby; three children, Jennifer (Tom) Montgomery of Camby, Kirk W. (Sheila) Smith of Noblesville, Michael W. (Melissa) Smith of Paragon; six grandchildren, Bethany McGuire of Indianapolis, Maranda Conn of Indianapolis, Hunter Smith of Noblesville, Mariah (Garrett) Walter of Noblesville, Nathan Montgomery of Plainfield, Garrett Smith of Noblesville; two great-grandchildren, Annlee and Easton Conn of Indianapolis. He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Bradley Smith.

Walter was an Electrician for Indianapolis Power & Light for 36 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Free Methodist Church in Mooresville. He enjoyed gardening and was a University of Kentucky basketball fan. He lived in Camby for most of his life. His family described him as hardworking and loved spending time with his family. He especially loved his roles of being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4- 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15th and 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, July 16th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. Allen Kirk will officiate Walter's celebration of life service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 16th at the funeral home. Walter will be laid to rest in Mooresville Cemetery.
